Alliant Energy releases annual Environmental Report

MADISON, Wis. – November 18, 2013 – Alliant Energy’s newly released Environmental Report highlights the company’s comprehensive environmental initiatives and performance over the last year. The annual publication provides information on the company’s strategic environmental leadership and oversight through energy efficiency, renewable energy, and emission control projects, as well as offering details on the company’s environmental outreach and sustainability. The report also provides data on a number of key environmental metrics the company monitors.

“Our company uses natural resources wisely and we’re making good choices in taking care of the environment,” said Patricia L. Kampling, Alliant Energy Chairman, President and CEO. “We know that it’s not enough to just comply with environmental laws and regulations, but that we must also integrate environmental impacts and sustainability into our everyday planning, construction, and operations.”

The report includes updates on:

  • Clean Air Projects - Air Quality Control System projects, including the installation of emissions controls at the Edgewater Generating Station in Sheboygan, Wis.; Columbia Energy Center near Portage, Wis.; and the Ottumwa Generating Station in Ottumwa, Iowa.
  • Sustainable Construction - efforts to earn Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) certification for most new building construction projects, including the 2012 construction of the new Ottumwa Generating Station Administration Building.
  • Energy-efficient street lighting - efforts to save money, such as the light-emitting-diode (LED) streetlight program, which increases efficiency and improves night-time visibility across the company’s Iowa and Wisconsin service territories.

“I am grateful to our dedicated employees whose everyday actions help us to preserve and protect our natural resources,” said Doug Kopp, Alliant Energy Vice President - Environmental Affairs.
