Alliant Energy files for regulatory approval of proposed sale of Minnesota natural gas business

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA – February 5, 2014 – Alliant Energy’s Minnesota utility has filed an application with the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (MPUC) seeking approval to sell its Minnesota natural gas business to Minnesota Energy Resources.

In September 2013, Alliant Energy’s Minnesota utility announced plans to sell its Minnesota natural gas distribution business to Minnesota Energy Resources.

The company also announced in September 2013 plans to sell its electric distribution business to a group of twelve southern Minnesota Cooperatives, known collectively as Southern Minnesota Energy Cooperative (SMEC). The company expects to submit an application seeking MPUC approval for the sale of its electric distribution business to SMEC in the first quarter of 2014.

Emergency response and any other service-related issues will continue to be handled by Alliant Energy’s Minnesota utility until the sale is completed.
