Alliant Energy's energy efficiency portfolio includes a mix of products and programs targeted at reducing peak demands and saving customers' energy.
These initiatives have a three-fold benefit:
Our utilities take saving energy seriously and our energy efficiency programs have achieved exceptional results.

In 2007, our energy efficiency programs resulted in new, additional savings of over 200,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity and almost seven million therms of natural gas during this one year alone.
Alliant Energy's programs for natural gas conservation began in the mid-1970s. Programs for conserving electricity were developed and fully integrated into energy planning and customer services by the early 1980s.
Today's programs such as IP&L's Performance Edge and WP&L's Shared Savings have resulted in significant energy savings. In many cases, energy savings are realized through the purchase of new energy efficient equipment that decreases energy consumption, while improving operational effectiveness and reducing maintenance costs.
Alliant Energy provides a wide range of energy conservation expertise as well as financial assistance to residential , agricultural and business customers in its service territory. Numerous programs are offered and our company continues to seek opportunities to expand them.
Alliant Energy considers the potential for energy efficiency from various programs in our planning efforts to determine future energy supply. We support policies to expand energy efficiency efforts at the state, regional and national levels. There is renewed emphasis on energy efficiency to preserve the environment by reducing air emissions, including greenhouse gas emissions associated with climate change. This growing interest from various stakeholders prompted us to publish an appendix to our 2008 Environmental Report that provides greater detail on the steps our company is taking to design new incentives for increased adoption of energy efficiency by our customers.
