Alliant Energy school programs

Boy with raised arms in front of wind turbinesAlliant Energy offers many special programs that can help your school save energy and money while educating staff and students about energy efficiency, safety and the environment. Our educational programs (Alliant Energy Kids and LivingWise) are free programs designed to enhance students’ energy and environmental education. Alliant Energy’s energy-efficiency cash rewards and the school-based energy-efficiency program sponsored by Alliant Energy help your school make the most of its energy usage while saving money on your energy bill.

Energy-Efficiency Cash Rewards for Schools
Your school can earn cash rewards, as well as federal tax incentives, for investing in qualifying energy-efficient upgrades, or for building with energy efficiency in mind. Equipment and measures include lighting, ceiling fans, heating and cooling measures, appliances, windows, doors and much more. Even if you don’t have money for energy-efficiency projects, special programs may be available to help pay for or finance the project.

Alliant Energy Kids
Through this popular classroom curriculum for third and fourth graders, students learn the science of electricity and natural gas, the importance of conservation, and the relationship between energy and the environment. The program includes lesson plans and in-class presentations.

LivingWise® (Iowa only)
The best way for students to learn about energy efficiency is through a hands-on approach, and the LivingWise program offers just that. Middle school students receive a kit with low-cost energy-saving measures, such as a low-flow showerhead, compact fluorescent light bulb and faucet aerator. The students bring the kit home and actually install the measures themselves. These small changes result in immediate energy savings and encourage energy-efficient behaviors in both the classroom and at home.

Growing Kids…Growing Trees (Iowa only)
Trees improve the beauty and enjoyment of a school grounds. But trees can also save a lot of energy when the right tree is planted in the right location. The Growing Kids…Growing Trees program provides the opportunity to apply for tree planting project grants at new and existing schools. Alliant Energy will provide expertise and guidance on proper tree selection and placement for energy savings.

KEEP (Wisconsin only)
KEEP (K –12 Energy Education Program) is a nationally-recognized training program that provides energy efficiency and renewable energy curricula and trains teachers in how to use it with their students. Wisconsin Power and Light Company (WPL), an Alliant Energy company, has supported KEEP through use of Energy Center of Wisconsin membership dollars for continuing education scholarships for teachers at schools located in WPL’s service territory. Developed at UW-Stevens Point, there are several curricula and activities available. To learn more visit www.uwsp.edu/keep.
