On September 16, 2009, Interstate Power and Light Company (IPL), an Alliant Energy company, implemented the fourth step of electric rate equalization to its Iowa residential and general service electric utility rates. The changes are in compliance with the Iowa Utilities Board's decision, issued on April 28, 2006, approving IPL's request to equalize its electric rates across its Iowa service area.
The effect of the proposed electric rate structure and equalization changes vary depending upon customer class, electric usage characteristics and the geographic electric pricing zone in which a customer is located.
In November 2008, the IUB approved the fourth step toward creating equal rates across IPL's Iowa electric service area. The approved changes do not increase IPL's overall revenues. IPL is proposing to implement the fifth and final step, of electric rate equalization for residential and general service customers in the first quarter 2011.
IPL completed electric rate equalization for its industrial and lighting customer classes in June 2008.
