Keokuk Public Library receives custom rebate award for energy efficiency
Alliant Energy awards $5,074 in energy efficiency rebates for lighting project
KEOKUK, Iowa – October 21, 2009 – The Keokuk Public Library was awarded a rebate check for $5,074 from Interstate Power and Light Company, an Alliant Energy company (Alliant Energy), for their proactive efforts in reducing their energy usage. The company presented a check to the Keokuk Public Library’s Board of Trustees this week in recognition of their commitment to energy efficiency.
The Keokuk Public Library installed new T-8 light fixtures throughout the facility. In addition, motion sensors and insulation were installed and the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system was retro-commissioned. The total cost of the project was approximately $18,000 and was paid for by the Keokuk Public Library Foundation.
The installation is expected to reduce the library’s annual energy usage by approximately 38,373 kilowatt-hours. The energy savings can have a significant impact on the environment by reducing the amount of carbon dioxide produced to light the facility by more than 27 metric tons. This is equivalent to removing the CO2 emissions from 3,128 gallons of gasoline consumed or 64 barrels of oil consumed.
In addition to improving its environmental performance, the Keokuk Public Library expects to realize a savings on its annual energy bill and earned $5,074 in energy efficiency rebates through Alliant Energy’s energy efficiency incentive program. The Keokuk Public Library has been actively working to increase their energy efficiency.
“Our company is pleased to work with the Keokuk Pubic Library on this project,” states Nancy Snaadt - Strategic Account Manager, Alliant Energy. “We appreciate the Keokuk Public Library’s commitment to reducing its impact on the environment and applaud their leadership’s proactive approach in pursuing energy-efficiency improvement projects.”
