Weatherization Assistance

The U.S. Department of Energy's Weatherization Assistance Program increases the energy efficiency of homes occupied by low-income families to reduce their energy costs while safeguarding their health and safety.

How does the program work?

Weatherization service providers install energy efficiency measures in the homes of qualifying homeowners free of charge. State action agencies (see below) administer the program under the direction of the DOE.

Trained crews and contractors install permanent cost-effective measures, including:

  • Insulation
  • Air leak reduction
  • Furnace repair/replacement (non-emergency)
  • Energy audit
  • Energy education
  • Other weatherizing services may also be available.
