Areas of compliance:
Employees and the workplace
- Safety and security
Every Alliant Energy employee has the right to work in an environment that is safe and free of hazards. Our company policy clearly states that Alliant Energy will conduct operations in ways that reasonably protect the life, health and safety of employees and the public. It is critical for Alliant Energy to sustain an environment in which we do not knowingly violate safety laws, rules, regulations or policies.
- Equal employment opportunity and no harassment
All company activities are conducted without regard to race, religion, creed, color, sex, national origin, age, sexual orientation, disability unrelated to job performance, Vietnam era/disabled veteran status and any other basis prohibited under applicable federal, state or local law. All employment decisions will be made in accordance with these principles. All employment related programs will be administered in a manner consistent with these principles.
Alliant Energy also maintains a strict prohibition against sexual, racial, religious, sexual orientation, and other harassment prohibited by law. Such harassment, like other types of discrimination, is a violation of both Company policy and the law. All employees are responsible for complying with this policy. Employees who are found to have harassed another employee, or non-employee, during the course of their employment will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
- Diversity
Diversity is one of Alliant Energy’s core values. We embrace differences because they make us a stronger organization. Inclusion of different backgrounds, languages, knowledge and experience, ages, cultures, ethnicities and genders, to name a few, is important to our understanding of the marketplace and enhances our ability to do business and to serve our customers well. We actively strive to maintain an inclusive and positive work environment for all employees – one in which each person is treated with dignity and respect and feels welcome to contribute to the success and growth of the Company.
- Workplace violence prevention
As part of providing a safe and secure workplace for all employees, Alliant Energy does not tolerate any conduct, by actions or words, reasonably perceived as threatening or intimidating against any employee, customer, or visitor. Alliant Energy also prohibits the possession of weapons on company property or in company vehicles.
- Substance abuse
We are strongly committed to maintaining a drug and alcohol-free work environment. Consistent with the spirit and intent of this commitment, we prohibit the use, possession, sale, purchase, manufacture, distribution, dispensation, or being under the influence of drugs or alcohol while on the job, during the work day, including breaks, meals, and overtime, and on Company property and in vehicles.
Conducting business
- Environmental responsibility
Caring for the environment is another of Alliant Energy’s core values, and we will strive to do business in a way that is environmentally sound, environmentally responsible and in compliance with all environmental laws, rules and regulations as well as related company policies and procedures. Through environmental programs based on sound scientific principles, we will manage air, land, water and wildlife resources and conduct our business in an environmentally sensitive and responsible manner.
- Customer, vendor and business relationships
Alliant Energy supplies essential services to our customers and we have a responsibility to deliver those services reliably and efficiently. Credibility with our customers depends on our ability to fulfill our commitments. Any time we fail to live up to a commitment, hard-earned customer trust is damaged. Employees must always remember that they represent the Company when they work with our customers and must be sure to meet customer needs professionally, efficiently, promptly and reasonably.
Building and maintaining good working relationships with our vendors, suppliers, contractors, consultants and other business partners is also critical to Alliant Energy’s success. This means being fair, honest and objective in all of our business dealings.
- Accounting principles
Alliant Energy requires adherence to the conventions, rules and procedures necessary to follow generally accepted accounting principles within the United States and the other countries where we have operations and/or investments.
- Conflicts of interest
A conflict of interest can arise any time a director, officer or employee faces a choice between a personal interest (financial or otherwise) and the interest of Alliant Energy. Real and apparent conflicts of interest may arise from ownership interests; outside employment; the employment of relatives; purchases; and accepting or providing gifts, meals and entertainment.
- Reporting and disclosure of company information
We are committed to full, fair, accurate, timely and understandable disclosure in all public reports and communications. Each officer will make an effort to ensure disclosure of information is done in a timely and understandable way, and that it is accurate, complete, objective and relevant in all reports Alliant Energy files with the Securities and Exchange Commission and in other public communications.
- Competition and fair dealing (antitrust)
Antitrust and trade regulation laws prevent businesses from unfairly restricting other businesses from competing in the marketplace. This includes such practices as price-fixing, limiting production, making agreements to drive competitors out of business or to refuse to buy or sell to another business. Alliant Energy will compete aggressively but fairly and honestly, and in compliance with antitrust and trade-regulation laws. Company policy prohibits taking unfair advantage of anyone and taking part in agreements to restrict competition in any way. We expect each of our directors, officers and employees to deal fairly and in good faith with our customers, shareowners, employees, suppliers, regulators, business partners, competitors and others.
- Compliance with all other applicable laws
To the extent not specifically discussed within this Code of Conduct, Alliant Energy expects all of our directors, officers and employees to comply with all applicable laws; rules and regulations of federal, state, local and foreign governments; and other appropriate private and public regulatory agencies. Without limitation, these laws include the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and federal securities laws prohibiting the trading of Alliant Energy securities or providing tips while aware of material non-public information regarding Alliant Energy. Employees will use their best efforts to ensure compliance to all such laws, rules and regulations.
