Rockford Products, a large manufacturing company located in Rockford, Illinois, needed a generator system for back-up power. As the IEA team worked closely with Rockford Products to evaluate its needs, the project resulted in a 4.6 megawatt generator system that is able to handle the whole electrical load for the company. |

Initially, it was determined to be more economical for the company to use the generator station for power during the weekday peak hours from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. to shave the “peak” demand charge. The system was designed to transition back to their regular utility during the night hours to take advantage of lower rates. |

The generator system not only saves money during peak hours, but also has the added reliability of a back-up system if the power should go out at any time. This secondary benefit is important to companies, such as Rockford Products, that rely on just-in-time manufacturing to build and sell its products. A power outage could shut down operations and down-time means dollars lost.
“IEA really made this project come together in a way that worked for our benefit. It was a team effort that was very successful for all involved”. - Carlos Howley, maintenance superintendent for Rockford Products.
