ALBERT LEA, Minnesota – May 2, 2008 – Continuing its commitment to ensure safe and reliable gas service, crews from Interstate Power and Light Company (IPL), an Alliant Energy Company, are working on a natural gas system improvement project in Albert Lea.
The purpose of the project is to replace and upgrade steel gas main pipe and services with new plastic main pipe and plastic services. Inside meters will be moved outside. Work will be done at various sites along Edgewood Road, Ulstad Avenue, E. Johnson Street, Sheridan Street, Cherry Avenue and Cato Drive. The project is expected to last until August.
During the project, crews will need to gain access to customer property. Assistance may be needed to establish the location of any customer-owned facilities, such as satellite dish cables or septic systems. Customers are asked to inform construction crew members of these facilities when they are working in their neighborhood. All attempts will be made to place a new gas meter in its present location, however, clearance guidelines may require the meter to be relocated. Locations other than those selected by the company may be available. However, individuals requesting an alternative site will be responsible for additional piping costs.
All areas of construction will be restored back to their original state, including reseeding of grass areas, after the project is complete.
“This work is a continuing effort to upgrade our facilities to ensure the safety and reliability of our natural gas system,” says Bob Danner, Manager – Customer Service, with IPL. “We appreciate the cooperation of everyone in the area during this important project.”
