Alliant Energy Foundation supports the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Dubuque

Boys & Girls Club provides food and education to underprivileged youth

MADISON, WI – May 2, 2008 – The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Dubuque provides 12,000 meals each year to members of the club. The Alliant Energy Foundation is providing a grant of $2,000 to help the club meet the needs of their membership.

The goal of the Meal/Education Program at the Boys & Girls Club is to provide a nutritious evening meal and at the same time, educate the youth on the positive outcomes of proper nutrition and hygiene. With an epidemic of adolescent obesity, the program educates the youth to the pitfalls of improper eating habits. Nearly 80 percent of the youth participating receive free or reduced lunch at school.

“Due to the generosity of the Alliant Energy Foundation, the Boys & Girls Club will be able to provide meals for our members during the summer program,” says Brian Meyer, Executive Director – Boys & Girls Club. “The grant will make a difference for some of the most underprivileged youth of the Dubuque community.”

“The programs offered by the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Dubuque have a positive impact on many youth in our community,” says Joel Schmidt, Regional Director – Customer Operations, Alliant Energy. “We are pleased to provide support to a project that touches so many lives.”

The Alliant Energy Foundation is committed to helping to improve the quality of life – now and in the future in the communities where Alliant Energy has a presence. The Foundation supports health and human service programs, education endeavors, civic activities, cultural and arts initiatives and environmental efforts.
