Alliant Energy assessing outages following freezing rain

Since the severe winter weather and freezing rain began this morning in Iowa, Alliant Energy crews have worked quickly to assess damage and restore power to customers as safely as possible. As of 8:00 p.m. on December 14, approximately 5,300 customers remain without power, down from the initial over 10,000 outages. Most of these outages are currently concentrated in Washington County, Iowa.

To expedite restoration efforts in Washington County, we are enlisting extra support from crews around the state. Crews are working tirelessly and safely to restore power. We expect to restore service for the majority of customers by tonight and most customers in Washington County, Iowa, by Sunday, December 15.

We urge everyone to stay clear of downed power lines and to provide crews with space to safely assess and repair damage. Do not clear ice from low or down power lines. Call 1-800-ALLIANT (800-255-4268) if you see low-hanging or downed lines and always assume lines are energized and dangerous. Customers may need to contact an electrician for repairs before service can be restored.
