Solar generation

Solar energy is more than a smart investment. It's a sustainable path into the future.

Adding solar to our diverse energy mix is a cost-effective way to generate energy without emitting greenhouse gases. When the sun shines, it provides a constant, abundant supply of energy.

In addition, solar provides significant economic benefits to our customers and the communities we serve.

  • Project construction creates good paying jobs and stimulates local economies.
  • Landowners who lease land for solar projects receive annual payments for the duration of the project life.
  • Communities with solar projects receive tax incentives they can use as they deem appropriate. Some communities use funds to build infrastructure, renovate public buildings and make improvements to local emergency response services.

To advance the benefits of solar, we meet regularly with the public, elected officials and local community members to engage in meaningful dialogue and ensure project results benefit all communities. We also work closely with the agriculture industry, labor groups, landowners and environmental stakeholders to minimize the effect on water, land and wildlife.

Solar energy is part of our plans to accelerate our transition to renewable energy and diversify our energy mix across Iowa and Wisconsin. Find additional information about our plans in our Clean Energy Blueprint.

Partnership with agriculture

We’re committed to delivering reliable, responsible energy solutions that deliver long-term savings and exceptional service to all customers. As we work to build the grid of the future, we partner with landowners in rural communities to build and maintain renewable, affordable energy in and around agricultural land based on shared values and principles.

Our standards:

  • Landowner relations. We negotiate fairly with landowners on reasonable lease terms and compensation for their land. We work with landowners to ensure we develop solar projects that are as compatible with existing agricultural practices as possible.
  • Responsible land use. We meet stringent environmental standards to ensure we contribute to a thriving agricultural community that benefits all and preserves the land for future generations of farmers.
  • Siting and permitting. We site and permit our solar projects in an open, honest and transparent fashion to be good neighbors to landowners and local communities.
  • Developer standards. We hold our solar development and renewable partners to the same rigorous standards we hold ourselves. We are good agricultural community citizens and make every effort to ensure our developers are too.
