Today, tree harvesting is set to begin. You may recall that Wood County Solar is working with local mills to use the harvested wood to produce beneficial products. While much of the wood is expected to meet the mills’ 4‐inch thickness requirements, any wood/stumps that doesn’t meet the mills’ requirements or cannot be accepted on a timeline that meets the project’s requirements will be chipped. The chipped wood will be used in a combination of ways; some will be sent to a local biomass plant, some will be used on‐site, and some will be made available free for use by community residents.

This week, at the Wood County Solar Project location, you’ll begin to notice surveyors on-site. You may also notice TNT Loggers and Ryan Inc/Homer Tree Service dropping off their equipment as they get ready to begin tree harvesting this month. In other news, Wood County Solar Project, LLC has completed the purchase of all the land that is need for the 150 megawatt solar project, including land near the interconnection point on the transmission line.
Alliant Energy is working in partnership with Wood County Solar Project, LLC, the Town of Saratoga, and the Wood County community. Together they will ensure the tree harvesting process meets community standards, is completed as sustainably as possible, and in alignment with the overall project objectives and timeline.
