A powerful storm knocks out the power at Akilah’s house. With no cell phone, TV or other electronic devices available, the young girl brings a solar yard light into bed to read a book about women leaders in math and science.
The light spills across the bed, where a trophy from her school’s science fair gleams softly in the shadows.
Suddenly, the tablet on her bedside table starts to glow, and Akilah hears a whoosh. She's transported out of her bed on a journey of science and adventure.

Episode 2: Akilah and the Power of Nature
As Akilah adjusts to a new school and new classmates, she has to choose a subject for a surprise science assignment. Over dinner, Akilah’s dad plants an idea when he mentions Alliant Energy’s One Million Trees project. When Akilah shares this with her lab partner Annalise, the idea grows roots.
As the two young scientists get to work, Akilah’s old friend Dr. Nix returns to give them an up-close view of the ecosystem. Will the girls’ journey through the elements and our ecosystem inspire them to finish their project and improve the environment?
Episode 3: Akilah and the Quest to Save Power
It’s time for a slumber party! Akilah has settled into life as a middle schooler and is enjoying a night with friends and music.
Her dad interrupts and reminds them not to leave lights on throughout the house.
That’s all it takes for this group of budding scientists to turn an average slumber party into a magical quest to save energy.
