Executive Vice President – Power Generation and Gas Strategy
Antonio Smyth is Executive Vice President of Power Generation and Gas Strategy at Alliant Energy (NASDAQ: LNT). He joined the company in 2025, bringing extensive industry expertise and proven leadership skills to the company as it navigates the complexities of modernizing and expanding capacity to meet customer needs and create value for all stakeholders.
Antonio is responsible for the operation and performance of Alliant Energy’s power generation assets, as well as the execution of strategic projects to support development of new generation resources to support system reliability and large-scale growth. He also leads the gas strategic planning, engineering and compliance areas, as well as having responsibility for the company’s facility and supply chain organizations.
Previously, Antonio served as executive vice president of grid solutions at American Electric Power (AEP). In that role, he led the origination and strategic planning of multi-billion-dollar infrastructure investment programs across electric generation, transmission, distribution and telecommunications. He also oversaw federal regulatory and compliance activity as well as the management, operations and financial performance of AEP’s transmission joint venture utility companies across the U.S.
With more than two decades of leadership experience, Antonio is known for building strong teams and empowering individuals to achieve their best. Prior roles include responsibility for the commercial development of generation infrastructure investments, electric transmission strategy and development, federal regulatory and government affairs, treasury and corporate finance, and corporate strategy and mergers and acquisitions.
Antonio chairs the board of the Reliability First Corporation in Cleveland, Ohio, and is a trustee of the Center of Science and Industry.
A United States military veteran, Antonio earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics from Ohio State University. He completed the executive leadership program at the Fisher College of Business at Ohio State University and holds a director certification through the National Association of Corporate Directors.
