An official groundbreaking ceremony took place earlier today on the project, which will span four acres and include about 1,200 solar panels.
“Our partnership with Alliant Energy creates the opportunity to generate meaningful revenue for our organization and bring renewable clean energy generation to our community,” said Kim Jass-Ramirez, CEO, Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA. “This project allows us to maximize the value of the land donated to our organization and is fitting for what the donor intended.”
The project will be Alliant Energy’s first customer-hosted solar project under construction in Iowa. It’s also the company’s first Customer-Hosted Renewables program partnership with a nonprofit organization.

The project is part of Alliant Energy’s® Customer-Hosted Renewables Program, which enables customers with available land to host solar facilities and receive lease payments and renewable energy credits. The project also furthers Alliant Energy’s goal to achieve net-zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2050.
Alliant Energy will design, construct, own, operate and maintain the solar project. In return for hosting the project, the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA will receive annual fixed lease payments over the next 20 years. Operational status for the solar project is currently anticipated for Fall 2023.
