Vice President – Operations

JP Brummond is Vice President of Operations at Alliant Energy Corporation (NASDAQ: LNT). He has over 30 years of experience in the utility industry, spanning a wide range of responsibilities and relationships with many great team members. He has enjoyed learning how coal, gas, hydro and nuclear plants operate, exploring the changes and opportunities available in energy market operations, and the challenges of a variety of corporate managerial/support roles.

JP joined the company in 2002, with more than 10 years of prior experience working as a chemical engineer and supervisor in coal and nuclear power plants. His first position in the company was a financial engineer, in what is now the Energy Market Operations (EMO) Department. One of his first big projects was to internally develop software with IT that would be used for many years to interact with the wholesale energy market, which was new at the time. After a variety of leadership assignments in the EMO, he moved on to a variety of positions with increasing levels of responsibility, including leadership roles in Generation, Customer Operations and Business Planning, which included the Environmental, Resource Development, Engineering Solutions and Resource Planning teams. JP also held leadership positions in corporate strategy and had an integral role working with the executive team to define and execute the strategy the company currently follows.

In 2024, JP was named Vice President of Operations. The Operations team under his leadership is responsible for safely and affordably delivering electricity and natural gas, and generating electricity for our customers in Wisconsin’s service area. His team includes Wisconsin’s Regulatory and Economic Development teams. The Regulatory team is responsible for Wisconsin’s regulatory filings and outcomes, and works closely with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin and many related stakeholders. The Economic Development team is responsible for driving demand for our products and supporting our large retail customers, which involves customer service evaluations, product and service discussions, and emergency/outage preparation and response processes. Other VP responsibilities include exploring ways to strengthen the communities we’re privileged to serve and fostering their economic development. Our corporate purpose of serving customers well and building stronger communities is a great guide for these business areas.

For over a decade, JP has been involved with the company’s Evolving Professionals Connection Employee Resource Group and serves as an Executive Sponsor. He takes pride in the fact that the group – which focuses on engaging and networking with employees – provides members an opportunity to form relationships across the organization with people they might not otherwise meet in their day-to-day work. He also serves on the Energy Risk Management and Trading Committee (ERMTC) that is responsible for governance over many of our internal commodity management and trading processes and procedures.

Outside of work, JP serves as a direct member of the Board of Directors for the Midwest Reliability Organization (MRO) and the Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce (WMC) Foundation Board and is an emeritus member of the UW Madison Erdman Center Advisory Board.

JP holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
