Thunderstorms, snowstorms and other big weather events bring down trees year-round. This leads to spikes in tree trimming activity – and, unfortunately, power line incidents.
Keep this information in mind as you take care of your yard:
- Stay 10 feet away from power lines. This includes your body, your ladder and any tools you use.
- Can’t do the job and keep your distance? Call Alliant Energy for help. We’re available at 1-800-ALLIANT (800-255-4268). We will work with you over the phone or send someone on-site to determine a safe plan to move forward.
- Turn to properly trained professionals. Tree trimming accidents and fatalities are most often caused by workers who are unaware of the safety protocols or homeowners. Simply put, electricity is very dangerous to work around and proper training is required.
- If you hire a tree trimmer, do your research to find an established business that works safely. Look for those with certification credentials from recognized arborist associations.
