Rob Vyvyan, a 10-year Alliant Energy lead generation engineer with a focus on hydropower, struggles to say no to volunteering. For him, volunteering serves as an outlet for his passion: Building strong teams and communities.
“Seeing teams work hard and succeed brings me great joy,” he said.
Vyvyan serves on the board of directors of Midwest Hydro Users Group (MHUG) where he works to strengthen the industry by bringing leaders in hydropower together.
MHUG’s mission is to promote safe, reliable, economical and environmentally responsible hydropower in the Midwest through learning and networking. Vyvyan’s leadership has resulted in a strong network of hydropower experts that has opened the door to other opportunities for our company. For instance in 2025, for the first time, MHUG will award scholarships to students interested in programs that support the hydropower industry as they pursue two- and four-year degrees. More people with expertise entering the hydropower fields could certainly benefit us.
Closer to home in Milton, Wisconsin, Vyvyan has been assistant coach to the Milton Wildcats girls softball and Milton Red Hawks girls basketball teams for the last three years. He is also on the Wildcats’ board. The athletes are all 10 years and under.
“With their emphasis on fairness, skill development and community and team building, the Milton youth sport programs I work with are safe, well-run ways kids can develop fitness in body and mind,” said Vyvyan. “Helping kids develop sportsmanship skills like goal setting, focusing, giving it all you’ve got, bringing your best attitude and being OK to make a mistake and learn from it helps build stronger communities.”
We recognize Rob Vyvyan with a Values in Practice (VIP) award, an honor that celebrates employees who donate time and energy to the communities we serve.
All 2024 VIPs receive a $500 grant to donate to the nonprofit of their choice. Vyvyan’s grant funds are going to the Johnstown 4-H Club in Rock County, an organization in which his two daughters are active. The funds will help start a scholarship to support higher education for graduating seniors who belong to the club.
We thank Rob and the other VIPs for how they act for tomorrow, do the right thing, make things better and care for others – a few of the values that shape everything we do.
