Charting our way to a diverse energy future

Data is essential to our daily lives for things like mapping out a road trip, accessing finances, checking weather forecasts and even tracking the transition to renewable energy and net-zero carbon emissions.  

Charts and graphs make data easier to understand. When it comes to our energy, they help us visualize complex scenarios like home energy use and how events such as a solar eclipse might affect solar energy generation.   

Charts and graphs help us forecast our way to a diverse energy future. We use them to:  

  1. Monitor and keep service reliable. Reliable electricity is critical to our daily lives. Real-time charts that show current grid conditions and fuel mix data help companies and grid operators keep supply and demand in balance on a moment-by-moment basis. 
  2. Guide stakeholders and policymakers. The U.S. Energy Information Administration has several charts and graphs useful for planning the future of the electric grid. Their hourly electric grid monitor provides fuel mix data and has an interactive map that shows how demand for electricity changes. 
  3. Help customers save money. Tools energy companies offer like our own My Account give customers ways to quickly view their energy use, including the ability to review weather information to see how it affected their bill. 

Incorporating various energy sources such as natural gas, solar, hydropower and wind enhances energy security and reliability. Charts and graphs that depict this source data help visualize complex data and tell the story behind the reliable power at your fingertips.   

At Alliant Energy, we’ve diversified our energy mix by expanding our renewable generation capacity from 5% in 2005 to 43% in 2023. We expect renewables will make up more than 50% of our energy mix by 2030. Check out our progress chart to see more data in action.
